Tommy’s Margarita – Cocktail Recipe
Tommy’s Margarita is a brilliant variation of the classic cocktail. The inventor’s name is Julio Bermejo, and the place was “Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant” in San Francisco in the early 90s. The classic Margarita, as we all know, is Mexico’s iconic cocktail, even though no one knows who created it and where, but Tommy’s Margarita is even more Mexican. You might wonder what can make the Margarita more Mexican… Well, Tommy’s version uses Reposado tequila and replaces the orange liqueur and sugar with agave nectar, which is made from the same plant as tequila. Agave nectar is a natural sweetener with fewer calories and was considered the healthier option. Unfortunately, agave actually has a very high fructose content which makes it not so healthy. Regardless, it’s not about that. Tommy’s recipe gives you a lighter cocktail, that is 100% agave, has fewer ingredients, and still similar in taste.
This cocktail is made by shaking tequila, lime, and agave nectar, and is served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass. You should be able to find Tommy’s Margarita in every good bar, or even better… learn how to make it yourself. Try the recipe below and tell us what you think. 🙂
