Cape Codder /Vodka Cranberry
Cape Codder (a.k.a Vodka Cranberry) is a simple and refreshing highball cocktail, comprising vodka and cranberry juice and maybe, just maybe, lime. It’s so easy to make, and you don’t even need a shaker. Just pour the 2 ingredients into a highball glass over ice and give it a little stir. Easy peasy.
The Cape Codder was invented in 1945 and its original name was “Red Devil”. In 1960, the cocktail was renamed “Cape Codder” and it’s been like that ever since. The new name comes from a town in Massachusetts called Cape Cod. The town is a popular tourist destination on the east coast and is famous for growing cranberries.
This simple vodka, cranberry combination is probably what inspired the Cosmopolitan, and just like it, it’s very popular with the ladies. The cocktail’s lovely red color makes it look like a harmless fruity drink, but you can’t put vodka in and call it harmless… 😀
